Badge Wallets for Cash: Moonlighter Cash Strap vs Billfold
If you carry cash, choose where the notes will go before choosing your badge wallet. A few folded bills for occasional use create a different requirement from cash you reach for several times a day.
The Moonlighter Cash Strap and Billfold both combine cards, cash and a badge. Their main difference is how they organise the notes, followed by their pocket footprint and maximum badge width. This comparison helps you decide which arrangement suits the way you actually pay.
Start with the cash you normally carry

Put your usual notes and cards on a table. Leave out old receipts and anything you are keeping only because it has always lived in your wallet. Count the bills, notice how you fold them and consider how often you take them out.
For occasional cash, a compact strap layout may be all you need. If you use notes regularly and prefer a dedicated compartment, a Billfold deserves a closer look. Neither choice needs to be loaded to its maximum to be useful.
Your badge can decide the comparison before personal preference does. The Moonlighter Cash Strap lists a maximum badge width of 57 mm, about 2.24 inches. The Billfold allows up to 68 mm, about 2.68 inches. Both list a maximum height of 90 mm, about 3.54 inches.
Compare the cash arrangements
Model | Cash layout and closed footprint |
Moonlighter Cash Strap | Folded bills; 3 × 4 inches, approximately 76 × 102 mm |
Billfold | Dedicated cash compartment for unfolded notes; 3¾ × 4 inches, approximately 95 × 102 mm |
The Moonlighter Cash Strap is the compact option in this pair. It lists capacity for six or more cards, folded bills and your badge. Consider it when you are comfortable folding cash and want to keep the wallet's width down.
The Billfold badge wallet lists six or more cards, cash and your badge in an upright bifold layout. Its cash compartment gives notes a dedicated place, while the wider badge allowance can be important even if you carry only a few bills.
These dimensions describe the closed footprint. Loaded thickness also depends on the notes, cards, badge and mounting hardware. An empty product photograph cannot tell you exactly how a fully loaded wallet will feel in your pocket.
Choose the cash routine you prefer

Think through an ordinary payment. With the strap layout, you work with folded bills. With a cash compartment, you can organise notes together without the same folding step. The better choice is the routine you will find comfortable repeatedly.
If you use several denominations, consider how you want to sort them and reach the right note. If cash is mainly a backup, ask whether a larger compartment would earn its space in your pocket. These are useful distinctions even when two people carry the same number of cards.
Receipts need a separate decision. A cash compartment is convenient, but letting paper accumulate changes the load you originally chose the wallet for. Clear receipts regularly instead of judging either model after weeks of unneeded paper have gathered inside it.
Confirm the badge before choosing the smaller model
Visit our Badge Library and compare the correct template with your badge. Print at Actual Size or 100%, verify the reference scale and check the complete perimeter. A badge's widest points count, even if most of its face is narrower.
If your badge exceeds the Moonlighter's width limit, choosing the smaller wallet is not a way to reduce the badge's footprint. Start with a compatible model, then manage the cards and cash you put beside it.
Rear hardware matters too. A long post or projecting clip can add depth independently of the cash layout. Use the Badge Attachments page to identify your setup rather than expecting the leather to compensate for it.
Test the size and finish the order

For a simple footprint check, cut two paper rectangles to the closed dimensions above. Compare them with your current wallet and the pocket you intend to use. This helps visualise width and height; it does not reproduce leather thickness or a loaded badge wallet.
Both models are handmade in Canada from full-grain vegetable-tanned leather and hand sewn with waxed Ritza Tiger thread. You can choose leather and thread colours and request initials or a badge number. Settle the layout first, then use those details to make it your own.
Choose the Cash Strap for folded-bill carry within its badge limit. Compare the Billfold when you want a dedicated cash compartment or need its wider badge allowance. Once those decisions are clear, build your badge wallet around your normal cards, notes and badge.
