Ready-to-Ship vs Build-Your-Own Badge Wallets: Which Should You Order?
You have chosen a handmade badge wallet, but there is another decision before checkout: should you order a Ready-to-Ship design or build your own? The answer depends on your timing, the finish you want and the badge you need it to fit.
Both routes appear in the Hammer & Axe shop. Ready-to-Ship gives you a selection of listed designs and colour combinations. Build-Your-Own gives you more control over the details. Understanding that difference makes it easier to choose without treating either option as a compromise in craftsmanship.

What Ready-to-Ship means
Ready-to-Ship starts with one of the designs and finishes offered in that section of the shop. The range currently includes black and brown versions of the Core and Moonlighter badge wallets, subject to availability.
Those listings still ask for your department or agency and badge attachment. The Ready-to-Ship label does not mean that you should choose a generic opening and hope your badge fits. It describes the ordering route and processing window, while your badge details remain part of the order.
Some listings also provide a field for initials or a badge number on the front. Read the specific product form to see the personalisation available on the wallet you are considering.
What changes when you build your own
Our Build-Your-Own badge wallet collection lets you choose the model and customise details such as exterior leather, interior leather, thread colour and the available personalisation options.
This is the route to explore when you have a particular combination in mind, need a layout outside the Ready-to-Ship selection or want to compare Standard and Mountie Edition designs. The current collection includes the Core, Outlook, Billfold and Moonlighter family.
Begin with the layout you will use every day. If you need a visible ID window or a particular way to carry cash, settle that first. Choosing a colour is more enjoyable once you know the wallet has the features you need.

Separate dispatch time from delivery time
The Ready-to-Ship listings currently state that orders are processed and shipped within two to four days. Our general production estimate for made-to-order work is currently one to two weeks before shipping.
Those are different stages from the delivery journey. A wallet leaving the workshop in a stated window does not mean it will arrive at your address within that same window. Allow time for shipping in either case, especially if the wallet is a gift for a fixed date.
Check the current lead-time information and the individual listing when you order. If your deadline is close, ask about it before checkout so the complete timing can be considered. Do not rely on the word ready alone as a delivery-date promise.
Your badge fit still comes first
Whichever route you choose, compare your badge with the appropriate outline in our Badge Library. Pick the version that matches the badge you intend to carry, then choose the attachment that matches its hardware.
For example, a smaller wallet footprint is useful only when the badge also fits that model. A wider badge may need a different design even if you prefer the look of a compact listing.
If the correct badge version is not shown, resolve that question before ordering. Ready-to-Ship should simplify the purchasing decision; it should not replace the fit check needed for your particular badge.

Choose around the details that matter to you
Ready-to-Ship is a practical starting point when a listed layout and colour combination suit you and the shorter processing window matters. Build-Your-Own is the better starting point when your preferred colours, layout or edition are central to the order.
Both routes offer wallets handmade in Canada from full-grain vegetable-tanned leather and hand sewn with waxed Ritza Tiger thread. Choose based on the finished wallet you want to carry, alongside a realistic timeline.
For a gift, decide which details are already known: the badge, the recipient's layout preferences and the presentation date. Then compare the available options and choose the route that brings those details together.
